Basics in VR

Overview of the First Responder:

First Responders have many responsibilities allowing them to perform in the following capacities: fire protection; medical and trauma care; hazardous material mitigation; mass casualty incidents; and other critical public safety services. This requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining a set of skills that utilize many tools that are available to first responders. The tools can range from knowledge obtained through training, hand tools and how they are used, and technological innovations and their impact on how we continue to improve.
We will expose children to all aspects of first responders and more by introducing how STEAM makes these skills possible. Through dynamic in-classroom discussion, as well as interactive, hands-on demonstration, STEAM with ASHES will present the power of technology. They will learn how technology has improved these skills and our response to all types of scenarios.
We hope to inspire the next generation to start thinking and creating the next technological advances for a safer world.

Training Goal:

The goal of this STEAM learning course is to develop and test a framework for establishing a first responder perspective. We will cover many, but not limited to the following:
Types of Emergencies; Personal Protective Equipment; Tools; Vehicles; Communication; Meters and Measuring Devices;

Training Specific Aims:

1. Establish a general understanding of the different responses, gear and equipment available to help mitigate the many emergencies first responders can encounter;

2. Create and test a basic understanding of the different communications options at an emergency scenario;

3.  Showcase the many technological devices currently in use;

4. Give the children a hands on experience with some of the tools, equipment, and technology available to responders.

Anticipated Impact:

Through the course of this lesson plan, we want the children to have a basic understanding of the roles of first responders. It will also advance their understanding of first responders responsibilities and how they use the knowledge they have honed through education, training, and new technological innovations.
